What is an International Driving Permit (IDP)?
An International Driving Permit is the UN-defined translation of your national driving licence into 12 languages — recognised in 195+ countries. Official IDP produces it as a signed PDF in minutes, with an optional printed booklet shipped worldwide.
Not to be confused with IDP Education. The "IDP" we're talking about is the International Driving Permit — a driving-licence translation document, defined by the United Nations road traffic conventions of 1949 (Geneva) and 1968 (Vienna). It has nothing to do with IDP Education, the global IELTS / study-abroad company that also uses the initialism "IDP".
A standardised translation
We translate your national driving licence into 12 languages, in the format defined by the United Nations road traffic conventions of 1949 and 1968. The same booklet is recognised by rental fleets and authorities in most of the world.
Carried alongside your original
A translation is not a standalone document. The booklet must always be presented together with your original, valid national driving licence.
Required by most rental companies
Global rental fleets like Hertz, Avis, Sixt and Europcar commonly request a translated permit to pick up a vehicle abroad. Without one, they may refuse the rental.
Delivered as PDF + booklet
You receive a signed PDF translation within minutes, with an optional 16-page printed booklet shipped worldwide by DHL Express. We do not produce plastic cards: no authority recognises them.
